A deadline gave me
somewhere to start.
I wasn't sure I could be an artist, so I gave myself two weeks to write and record a song. When I finished “I'll Explain,” I had made something I liked. That was enough to make me try again.
Writing gave me somewhere to put things I couldn't explain yet. The song starts in that darker place, then the hook gets brighter at the end. I wanted to leave a little room for things to change.
